I know that I've been busier than usual, and perhaps this Thompson fella is some kind of athlete and needs his finger for some sport that he's known to excel at, but, dare I ask, who is Thompson?

Stephen Tuttle Thompson was the dude that deeded the town of Arab to us.  The two old buildings that once housed the Arab High School and is now Mink Creek and the building next door, that used to be the high school auditorium are located on what used to be a pasture of his.  One of his sons was named Arad, and the USPS which is covered in another discussion, was the agency that screwed it up and gave us the name of ARAB.
