Thank you to SoundoffArab for sponsoring the 25th Annual Poke Salat Festival

25th Annual Poke Salat Festival
May 1 and 2
Downtown Arab, Alabama

The 25th annual Poke Salat Festival will be held on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Historic Downtown Arab. The two-day event is the largest annual event in Downtown Arab, attracting attendees from all over North Alabama and Southern Tennessee.

This year's festival will feature a variety of local and regional artists and crafters, musical acts and entertainers, along with displays of antique quilts, antique tractors and classic cars. Arab’s Historical Society will have a display with this year’s theme “Grandma’s Kitchen.”

Children’s events will include an inflatable where the kids can jump, a train ride, a bungee jump, games and a carnival ride. The variety of food for this year's festival is looking to be the best ever with catfish plates, scrambled burgers & dogs, nachos, a large variety of sandwiches, cotton candy, funnel cakes, hot boiled peanuts, fried Oreos, ice cream, percolated flavored coffees - and a whole lot more! Come hungry!

Along with sidewalk sales by many Downtown merchants, artists and crafters, civic groups, church groups, local businesses and service organizations will have booths along the sidewalks on Main Street, booths on 1st Ave. and 1st Street NW.

Musical acts will play on the stage at the corner of 1st Ave and 1st Street beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday with a street dance from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday the music starts on the stage at 2 p.m. and continues until the street dance, 8-10 p.m.

Want a chance to perform? Join the karaoke fun at the gazebo beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Karaoke will last until late in the afternoon giving everyone a chance to join in - watch for a special performance by a large group of Red Hatters from Cullman! The Klassy Kickers will perform at 11 a.m. near the gazebo.

Bring your pet! The Poke Salat Festival will once again host the best dressed pet contest. Dress your pet in their cutest outfit and register at the information booth by noon.  Winner announced at 12:30 at the gazebo.

And of course, Poke Salat. Never had it before? Get a sample at Granny Nell’s display on 1st Avenue on Saturday morning, then head over to L-Rancho for a plate of poke salat cooked up right!
