I’m guilty of being the type of person that sometimes focuses a bit too much on the negative.  As with any type of situation I think it is good to step back and reassess what is going right in said situation.  I think that in today’s economic crisis we get too caught up in focusing on what is going wrong in our lives rather than looking at what is going right.

In Arab we have pretty good compared to other cities.  The city has some growth and if you want to get a start in the banking industry Arab is your town with no less than 12 banks and a two new ones getting ready to open soon.  But those banks wouldn’t invest their money in Arab if they didn’t think that Arab has a bright future.  Now I know what you are thinking.  Why in the world would we trust the banking industry?  Well believe it or not all banks are evil.  The truth of the matter is a majority of the banks in Arab are locally owned.  From Redstone Federal Credit Union who only services North Alabama and some southern parts of Tennessee to Merchants Bank who which is operated out of Cullman.

The other positive thing that I want to point out is how strong our community is.  When someone needs help and makes it known our community through the countless churches and community groups steps up to the plate to help.  As a city we continue to support groups and events like American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the two Arab Mothers Clubs.  I like to think that Arab is one of the last great communities that truly care about each other.

As for city services we are very lucky to have a police department that is full-time and dependable, our fire and medical services are superior and we have quick access to trauma centers to our north and south via road or air, our schools rank with the best in the State of Alabama and we are far enough away from Huntsville to escape some of their major issues yet close enough to enjoy a nice ride to work and back again each day.

I hope that more people and industries will see Arab as the jewel that it really is.  This type of southern charm isn’t found just anywhere and I for one am glad to call Arab home.
